LifeCuff Device

LifeCuff is a second-generation automated device for the delivery of remote ischemic conditioning. In addition to providing RIC therapy, the device is capable of detecting a patient’s blood pressure which provides many advantages as compared to previous devices:

• Simple to use with a single START button

• Detects vital signs (blood pressure and heart rate) for transmission to the doctor

• Minimizes discomfort by adaptively inflating the cuff to the lowest effective pressure

• Can be used at home, in many cases by the patients themselves

 

The ability of the device to measure blood pressure at the same time as it delivers the RIC therapy is a result of a novel oscillometric technique developed by the Company and protected by many patents. This technique is based on small fluctuations in cuff pressure at or about the detected systolic pressure of the patient, which constantly updates the blood pressure measurements even during the periods of cuff occlusion.

 

While the prototype of the device is housed in a small box and attached to the cuff by a small tube, the future commercial version of the device will feature a controller built into the cuff to deliver the most streamlined experience to the patient.
